"This is not a Stone Batch test if either of us uses sex to make the result prettier."

Garron said it in the forge loft, standing beside the narrow bed where he sometimes slept during winter work. The loft was plain: one bed, one chair, one wash basin, a peg for clothes, and a small shuttered window overlooking the yard. The forge below was banked low. No Stone cup was in the room. No bluevein filings. Only a warmed iron plate under the bed, wrapped in cloth, and the written terms on the chair.

Lina stood in front of him with her hair braided back, dress unlaced at the throat, and her body already answering the fact that Garron had stripped to his shirt and trousers. He looked broad in the small room. Not ornamental. Useful. Warm. Adult and steady in a way Stone Batch had tried to imitate without earning.

"This is a physical heat-retention test," Lina said. "No dose, no commands, no praise that sounds like instruction, and no 'hold still.' No 'be good.' No using steadiness to make me easier."

Garron's mouth tightened. "My terms: if you reach for the warmed plate during arousal, I move it away. If you ask me to tell you what to do, I ask what you choose instead. If I start liking being the steady thing too much, I stop."

"Tamsin knows I am here."

"I asked because I needed to hear you say it."

"She knows I am here. She did not want to watch. She wants a report before sleep and the right to be angry without making the anger a verdict."

Garron nodded once, plain and durable. "Good terms."

Lina tried to smile. It came out smaller than usual. "Are you nervous?"

"Yes."

"About the test?"

"About wanting you clearly."

The sentence went through her like heat through iron. She named it. "Arousal is strong from being wanted clearly. From your honesty. No dose."

"Arousal strong," Garron said. "From your voice, your courage, your fear, and the fact that you are not pretending this is only notes."

Lina let out the breath she had been treating like evidence. "May I touch your hand?"

"Yes. Agreement touch first."

His hand was warm and rough. She turned it palm up and traced the burn scar near his thumb. He watched her, jaw tight, letting sensation arrive without making it a debt. The warmed iron below the bed gave off steady heat through the floorboards. Lina could feel it under her feet, but it did not pull like Stone. It waited.

"Kiss?" she asked.

"Yes. Mouth only first."

The kiss was not delicate. Garron kissed like he worked: attention first, pressure second. His hands stayed at her waist until she moved closer. Lina opened her mouth. He answered with a low sound that made her clit tighten.

"Still present?" he asked against her lips.

"Yes. Want more. Shirt off. Yours."

He stepped back and removed his shirt. His chest was broad, dark with hair, marked by small burn scars and one pale line across the ribs. Lina touched only after asking. He shivered when her palms moved over him.

"Report," she whispered.

"Arousal stronger. Want your mouth on my chest. Want my hands under your dress. Still clear."

"Yes to both."

He unlaced her dress slowly because slow was safer than pretending urgency proved honesty. Lina stripped down to shift and then skin when he asked and she said yes. Garron looked at her body with direct hunger: breasts, belly, hips, the dark curls between her thighs. He did not make it pretty for her. He made it visible.

"Say something," Lina said, suddenly exposed.

"I want you. I am not confused by wanting. I am not commanded by it."

Lina's knees almost gave. "Good sentence."

"Useful one."

They moved to the bed. The warmed iron plate beneath made the mattress hold heat evenly. Lina lay back while Garron knelt between her legs, still in trousers, hands on her thighs.

"Mouth?" he asked.

Lina swallowed before the room could hear too much of her pulse. "Yes. On my cunt. No fingers inside until I ask."

Garron lowered his mouth. The first lick was careful, broad, hot. Lina gasped and grabbed the sheet instead of his hair because she had not asked to hold him there. He noticed.

"You may touch my hair if you choose. Not to hold. To feel."

"I choose."

His hair was thick between her fingers. His mouth worked steadily, tongue circling her clit, then flattening, then drawing another sound from her. The heat under the bed made pleasure spread through her hips. Not command and not calm. Body warmth carried by a real mouth.

"Close," Lina said. "I want to come from your mouth."

Garron lifted his head. "Chosen?"

"Chosen. No Stone. No command. I want it."

He put his mouth back on her and made her come with slow, stubborn attention. Lina cried out, hips lifting, fingers tightening in his hair and then loosening because she remembered. Garron eased off when she said enough.

After breath returned, she sat up and reached for his trousers. "Your turn. Terms?"

"Your hand first. Then mouth if you want. No promise of finishing unless I ask near the edge."

Lina opened his trousers. His cock was hard, thick, hot in her hand. He closed his eyes and did not move until she said, "You can breathe like a person."

He laughed once, rough. "Trying."

She stroked him slowly, learning weight and heat. He put one hand on the wall behind her, not her head. That mattered. She took him into her mouth because she wanted to, not because symmetry demanded it. He groaned, deep and controlled, and the warmed plate under the bed gave one tiny settling tick.

Lina lifted her mouth. "No Stone response?"

"No. Just me trying not to thrust like an idiot."

"You may move if you ask."

"May I move shallow?"

"Yes."

He moved shallow, careful, letting her set the boundary with one hand on his thigh. When his breath changed, he touched her shoulder. "Close. I want to come in your mouth if you want that. If not, cloth."

Lina chose with surprising ease. "Mouth."

He came with a strained sound, hand braced on the wall, not gripping her. Lina swallowed, then sat back, flushed and shaking. The room smelled of sex, iron, sweat, and banked coals.

They cooled after: water, bread, naming, no touching the warmed plate until both were dressed. Lina wrote the result with a steadier hand than expected:

Human steadiness differs from Stone steadiness because it can answer, stop, and be embarrassed.

Garron read it and added:

Heat held by hands must remain less perfect than heat held by metal.

They sat on opposite sides of the little room while sweat cooled on their skin. The distance was not regret. It was part of the test. Lina's body still wanted to crawl back toward him, not desperately, but with a quiet curiosity that felt more dangerous than hunger because it could pretend to be reasonable.

"Report," Garron said.

"Post-orgasm warmth. Desire to be held. Also desire to compare your steadiness to Stone again, which is probably my brain trying to turn pleasure into research before it has finished being pleasure."

Garron let a quiet nod carry the answer. "I want to hold you. I am not offering yet because I do not know whether holding would be aftercare or extension."

Lina breathed out. "Good distinction. I hate it."

"Same."

They waited. The warmed plate under the bed cooled by degrees. When it no longer radiated through the mattress, Lina felt her desire change. Less pull. More ordinary affection, still complicated, still real.

"Now?" she asked.

Garron considered. "One shoulder hold. Sitting. Clothes on. If either of us wants to turn it back into sex, we say so and stop."

"Those terms stand."

They dressed first. That made the hold almost more intimate. Garron sat beside her on the bed and put one arm around her shoulders. Lina leaned against him. His body was warm, but not perfect. He smelled of sweat, iron, and sex, and his heart beat too quickly for a man pretending to be only steady.

"Your heart is not as calm as your voice," she said.

"Calm voices are tools; hearts are witnesses."

"That is going in the report."

"Make it smaller."

She did not.

Lina looked at him. "That sounds almost romantic."

"Then write smaller."

She laughed, and the warmed plate stayed only warm.

Not hungry and not commanding.

That was the result she trusted most.

Before she left, Lina copied one clean page for Tamsin and one ugly page for herself. The clean page listed terms, temperatures, pauses, and observed risks. The ugly page said: I wanted him; I liked being wanted; I must not turn that into proof that the method is safe.

Garron read the ugly page first because he was inconveniently wise.

"Good," he said. "Take that one home too."

"It will start a difficult conversation."

"Then it is already useful."

Lina almost argued. Instead, she folded the page and let usefulness feel heavy.
