"Give me the page before I start guessing what else you decided I was too fragile to read."
Tamsin said it in the Moonlit Chalice cellar with her hand out, her voice level, and her face so calm Lina wanted to run into weather. Daren had been cooled and watched at the temple. The counterfeit vial sat locked in Thessia's evidence box. Garron was at the forge testing the cork's fake crown mark. Vex had closed the Rose for one hour to brief workers. That left Lina and Tamsin under the inn, where sacks of flour, onions, and old stone made every lie smell domestic.
Lina held the folded page in her fist.
"It is not a formula," she said.
"That was not the question."
"It is partial antidote thinking. Not tested and not safe. I did not want anyone to act on it too soon."
Tamsin's hand remained open. "You mean you did not want anyone to stop you from thinking alone."
Lina's mouth went dry.
There it was. Not dramatic and not shouted. Worse. True.
She placed the page in Tamsin's palm.
Tamsin read it. Her eyes moved once, twice, three times. "You wrote mountain hold may be interrupted by induced shore confession followed by marsh slowing."
"As a hypothesis."
"You wrote, if speech fails, provoke grief."
"Not provoke. Invite. It was late. Bad wording."
Tamsin looked up. "Bad wording is where bad rooms begin asking for furniture."
Lina flinched. "I know."
"Do you? Daren was shaking in an alley with his body betraying him, and part of you was already designing which direction to push next."
"To help him."
"Yes. That is why this is difficult. Your dangerous instincts keep arriving with bandages."
Lina pressed both hands to her face. "I was scared."
"So was I."
"I am the brewer."
"And I am the person who keeps watching you turn fear into a locked drawer."
Lina lowered her hands. "I thought if I wrote it privately first, I could make it less dangerous before anyone saw it."
"You made it more powerful by making it lonely."
"I did not use it."
"No. You caught yourself at the edge of a room you keep building. I am asking for a door."
The cellar seemed too small. Lina wanted to apologize, explain, cry, defend, and kiss Tamsin until the anger became easier. She named it because the new rules deserved teeth.
"Impulse to use touch to end argument. Strong. I choose not to act without ask."
Tamsin's jaw trembled. "Good. I am angry and I still want you. That does not mean the anger is available for sex yet."
"I accept those terms."
They stood in silence with the page between them.
Tamsin folded it carefully. "New rule. All formula notes, antidote notes, fear notes, dream notes, and ugly half-thoughts go into shared records by nightfall. If you need private emotional writing, mark it private and keep it about feelings, not ingredients, not protocols, not bodies."
Lina accepted that with a quiet nod. "Accepted."
"Say the part you hate."
"You get access before the work is pretty."
"Again."
"You get access before the work is pretty."
Tamsin's eyes filled, but she did not cry. "I do not need to be protected from your unfinished mind. I need to be allowed to stand in the room where it happens."
Lina broke then. Not loudly. Her knees softened, and she caught herself on a flour sack.
"No kneeling," Tamsin said, immediate and fierce.
Lina laughed through tears. "I was collapsing, not worshiping."
"I am broadly opposed to both."
That laugh saved enough of the room for love to enter without pretending it was repair.
Lina wiped her face. "Touch?"
Tamsin did not answer quickly. That was the point. "Terms first. This does not erase the rule. This does not celebrate confession. This is not me forgiving faster because your mouth is talented."
"My mouth has been unfairly accused but accepts supervision."
Tamsin almost smiled. "My terms: I stay angry. You stay honest. If either of us starts using sex to avoid the shared-record rule, we stop and go upstairs to write until our hands hurt."
"Accepted. My terms: I want to be touched as Lina, not managed as the brewer. I want to touch you if you want, and if not, I accept holding only."
"I want your mouth," Tamsin said. "Not as forgiveness. As proof that wanting can exist beside anger without becoming judge."
The cellar had become many things over the last months: storage, sanctuary, test room, refuge. Tonight it became a place where rules sat on the floor with desire.
They spread a blanket on the clean boards near the dry shelves. No Stone, no brew, no silk, no formula paper within reach. Tamsin stripped first, angrily practical: bodice, skirt, shift. Lina watched every inch of skin appear. Tamsin was flushed at the throat, breasts bare, nipples tight, thighs strong from endless stairs. Anger made her beautiful in a way Lina would not say aloud unless invited.
"Put your body on the table first," Tamsin said.
"Arousal is strong, shame is strong, and love is strong. Fear of losing you severe. I am not asking fear to earn touch."
"Good enough."
Tamsin lay back and opened her legs. "Mouth. Slowly. If I say records, you stop."
"Records?"
"It seemed better than bucket."
"Horrifying. Accepted."
Lina knelt between Tamsin's thighs because Tamsin asked her to, not because any formula wanted knees. She put her hands on Tamsin's hips and kissed the inside of one thigh, then the other. Tamsin's breath caught. Lina looked up, pulled back from the private edge of the answer.
"Still want?"
"Yes. Stop checking like a clerk and use your mouth like you mean it."
Lina obeyed the request, not the command shape. She licked Tamsin slowly, tasting salt and heat, feeling Tamsin's thighs tense around her shoulders without trapping. Tamsin's hand entered Lina's hair and loosened at once.
"Not holding," Tamsin said.
Lina hummed against her, and Tamsin cursed. Anger did not vanish. It changed temperature. Lina kept her mouth steady, tongue circling clit, then flattening, then dipping lower because Tamsin liked being teased only after she had declared herself impatient.
"Harder."
Lina gave her harder. Tamsin came with a sharp cry, back lifting, one hand gripping the blanket and the other open beside her head. Lina stopped when Tamsin tapped twice.
For a while, Tamsin breathed.
Then she sat up and kissed Lina with her own taste on Lina's mouth. "Your turn?"
"Only if you want."
"I want my hand on you while you recite the rule."
Lina groaned. "That is cruel."
"Educational."
Tamsin pushed Lina down, stripped her, and slid fingers between her thighs. Lina was soaked. Tamsin did not comment. She began to rub Lina's clit with firm circles.
"Rule," Tamsin said.
"All formula notes, antidote notes, fear notes, dream notes, and ugly half-thoughts go into shared records by nightfall."
Tamsin slid two fingers inside her. "Again."
Lina recited it again, voice breaking as pleasure rose. By the third recitation, she came around Tamsin's fingers, sobbing the words "before the work is pretty" into Tamsin's shoulder.
Afterward, they dressed and went upstairs.
Before sleep, Lina copied the private page into the shared record. Tamsin sat beside her, anger not gone, love not gone, both of them tired enough to be honest.
At the bottom, Lina wrote:
No more private notes that can touch another body.
Tamsin added:
I am not fragile. I am in the room.
Then she drew three columns beneath it: fear note, formula note, body note.
"Every future page gets one of these marks," Tamsin said. "If it touches ingredients, witnesses see it. If it touches bodies, witnesses see it. If it is only fear, you may keep it private until fear starts designing instructions."
Lina gave a small, practical nod. "Accepted."
"Say the part you want to joke about."
"I am offended that your paperwork is attractive."
Tamsin finally laughed. "Good. We will survive the first night."
They did not sleep immediately. Lina wanted to, but Tamsin made her carry the shared record downstairs and read the new rule aloud to Garron, Vex, Thessia, Orin, and Isolde.
"That sounds humiliating," Lina said.
"It is accountability wearing clean boots."
So Lina read it. No one applauded. No one comforted too fast. Garron only nodded and said, "Door added."
Vex said, "Good. Doors are sexier than secrets when they keep people alive."
Tamsin turned her full attention on Lina, which was sometimes worse than shouting. "See? Not fragile."
Lina believed her a little more.
After the witnesses left, Tamsin made her eat bread and name one fear that would not become a formula tonight.
"I am afraid the next sick person will die because I waited for witnesses."
"Good fear," Tamsin said. "It stays fear until morning."
Lina hated that and slept better because it had been said aloud.
The page stayed on the table between them, visible in lamplight, ordinary and severe. Tamsin slept with one hand near it, not guarding Lina from herself, but guarding the door they had finally built together.
