"If you write my name small, I will take half the inn and all the good pillows."

Tamsin sat across from Lina at the office table with the legal ledger open between them and nothing but a locked door, two cooling cups, and a very opinionated candle for company. Her hair was down for once, dark over one shoulder, and she wore the blue dress Lina liked because it made her look less like a warning and more like the woman who had survived giving them all.

Lina held the pen. Her hand had not shaken when destroying the Threshold sequence. It shook now.

"I am trying to write your name with appropriate civic dignity."

"You are hovering over the page like the ink is going to ask you for marriage terms."

"It might. Everything else in this village has developed opinions."

Tamsin leaned back. "Read the line."

Lina looked down. "Effective from this day, Tamsin Hale holds equal legal partnership in the Moonlit Chalice, the public Special Brew, service code enforcement, profit distribution, debt authority, supply refusal, and recipe licensing under the Full Size Code."

"And?"

Lina made herself swallow before she spoke. "And no sale, license, royal contract, route contract, Rose contract, temple copy, market copy, or private variant may be made without both signatures."

"And?"

"And if Lina Beren attempts to hide a dangerous note, ingredient, or procedure from the named partner, Tamsin Hale may suspend production without being accused of abandonment, betrayal, hysteria, or overreach."

Tamsin's eyes did not soften. That was how Lina knew the line had landed where it needed to.

"Sign it," Tamsin said.

Lina signed.

Then she turned the ledger around.

Tamsin took the pen and wrote her name in a firm, dark hand. Not decorative and not careful enough to look afraid. Tamsin Hale filled the line.

The hearth in the next room warmed through the wall.

Lina let out a breath. "That is half the inn."

"Yes."

"Half the debt."

"Unfortunately."

"Half the brew."

"You keep saying attractive things in a miserable voice."

Lina laughed, but it came out wet. "I thought I would feel smaller."

Tamsin capped the ink. "Do you?"

"No. I feel..." Lina searched for a clever sentence and failed. "Less alone in the part that used to make me lie."

Tamsin touched the fresh signature with one finger, not smearing it. "I need my line too."

"Your line?"

"The one where I admit what this costs me. Equality is not only you giving away half the shiny parts. It is me taking half the blame when the roof leaks, half the argument when a customer hates a rule, half the fear when Seraphine sends a polite knife folded into a contract. I want that written before we pretend this is only romantic."

Lina's chest tightened. "Say it and I will write it."

Tamsin looked at the candle instead of Lina. "Tamsin Hale accepts legal partnership with full knowledge that love does not erase business risk, that anger does not cancel duty, and that leaving a room for safety does not remove her name from the work unless she chooses removal in writing."

Lina wrote slowly. "That is a very Tamsin sentence."

"It has boots."

"It has teeth."

"Contracts should bite people who get clever."

They both signed beneath it. The ink dried dark.

Tamsin stood. "Good. Now lock the ledger."

Lina obeyed. When she turned back, Tamsin was unbuttoning the blue dress.

The room changed at once.

Not because of magic. Because Tamsin chose to undress there, beside the legal table, where equal ownership had just stopped being a promise and become ink. The first button opened at her throat. The second showed the upper curve of her breasts. Lina's mouth went dry. Tamsin's body was familiar, but tonight familiarity carried a new authority. Not ownership over Lina. Ownership beside her.

"Terms," Tamsin said.

Lina gripped the back of the chair. "Door locked. No brew, no notes, and no dangerous objects. Ledger closed. Equal partners. You lead unless you give it to me."

"And?"

"No owner words."

"Better."

"Partner words only."

Tamsin smiled then. "Come here, partner."

Lina crossed the small office too fast. Tamsin caught her by the waist, not gently, and kissed her with all the patience she had denied herself for weeks. Lina opened under it, hands sliding to Tamsin's shoulders, then down to the open dress. Tamsin's tongue pushed into her mouth. Lina moaned. It felt indecently good to be wanted after the ledger had named her less singular.

Tamsin broke the kiss. "On the table."

Lina glanced at the ledger box.

"Closed," Tamsin said. "I am not fucking you on open contracts. I have standards."

"You have several terrifying standards."

"And half the pillows."

Lina got on the table. Tamsin lifted her skirt, untied her drawers, and drew them down to her knees. The office air touched Lina's wet cunt. She had been ready from the first button and hated how easily Tamsin knew it.

"Let the room hear the body before the excuse," Tamsin said.

"Arousal high. Consent present. Want your mouth. Want your fingers. Want to be reminded that partnership did not make you less hungry for me."

Tamsin's face changed with pleasure. "That last one I can do."

She knelt between Lina's thighs.

The first stroke of Tamsin's tongue made Lina jerk, heels scraping the table leg. Tamsin held her hips down with both hands and licked her slowly, flat and deliberate, as if she had all night to prove exactly what equal did to appetite. Lina's hands gripped the table edge. The candle threw Tamsin's shadow over the wall: head moving between Lina's thighs, shoulders steady, one hand sliding from Lina's hip to spread her open.

"Tamsin," Lina said, already breathless.

Tamsin lifted her mouth. "Use the right word."

Lina's face burned. "Partner."

"Again."

"Partner, please."

Tamsin slid two fingers inside her and put her mouth back on Lina's clit.

Lina cried out, then bit the sound down because the office walls were not as thick as pride wished. Tamsin curled her fingers, found the place that made Lina's thoughts drop, and worked her with steady, ruthless care. There was no command heat here. No witness circle. No civic ledger watching them. Only the woman who could now stop a royal contract with her signature and make Lina come apart with two fingers and a tongue.

"Report if you can," Tamsin murmured against her.

"Fingers inside. Mouth on clit. Very wet. Close. Mine. Yours. No, not yours. Ours. I mean..."

Tamsin laughed into her cunt, and the vibration pushed Lina over the edge.

She came hard, hips lifting into Tamsin's mouth, thighs tightening around Tamsin's shoulders. Tamsin held her through it, fingers still moving until the pulse softened. Lina covered her own mouth with one hand and said into her palm, "Orgasm. Partner. Equal. Still wanted."

Tamsin kissed the inside of her thigh before standing. Her mouth was wet. Lina nearly came again from the sight alone.

"Your turn," Lina said, voice ruined.

Tamsin pulled Lina upright by the front of her dress. "Yes. But not as payment."

"As what?"

"As me wanting my partner's mouth."

Lina slid down from the table on unsteady legs. Tamsin sat in the chair, dress open, one breast bare where the fabric had slipped. Lina knelt and pushed Tamsin's skirts up. Tamsin watched her with flushed cheeks and that stubborn, beloved mouth.

"Ask," Tamsin said.

Lina kissed her knee. "May I taste you?"

"Yes."

Lina put her mouth on Tamsin with no cleverness left. Tamsin was wet and warm, her body answering with the force she so often turned into competence. Lina licked her clit, slid one finger inside, then another when Tamsin said, "More." Tamsin's hand buried in Lina's hair, guiding but not forcing.

"That is right," Tamsin said. "Slow there. Harder now. Do not make me elegant, Lina. I am not signing anything with dignity while your mouth is on me."

Lina groaned into her and obeyed.

Tamsin came with her head tipped back, one hand gripping Lina's hair, the other braced on the closed ledger box. She did not say Lina's name. She said, "Partner," like an oath cracked open by pleasure.

Afterward they sat on the floor, half-dressed, breathing against each other.

Lina rested her cheek on Tamsin's thigh. "Your name is very large in the ledger."

"It should be."

"I think the ink looked smug."

"It learned from me."

Lina turned her head and kissed the inside of Tamsin's knee. "Tomorrow, people will read that line and know I cannot sell them without you."

Tamsin's hand settled in her hair. "Tomorrow can be proud of itself. Tonight, you are staying here until my legs remember stairs."

Outside the office, the inn moved around them: cups, chairs, low voices, the safe formula cooling on shelves, a future with two signatures.

Lina had expected equality to cost her power.

Instead, it had made the room big enough for both of them to breathe.
